God’s blessed us with the capacity to feel love, empathy, compassion, gratitude, and joy. But, for every positive emotion, there’s also an opposing negative emotion. When negative emotions overpower us, we may be derailed but not defeated. God’s truth can steady our hearts.
Sometimes, we limit God within the walls of our raw emotions. Carnal emotions can cause us to question His love during His silence, His correction, His discipline, and His loving delays. We are especially vulnerable when we’re ill, in crisis, in disappointment or unexpected change.
Yes, faith can move mountains but sometimes God leaves the mountain there so we can endure the climb and grow in faith.
…we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope
(English Standard Version, Romans 5:3-4)
God’s grace empowers us to scale our spiritual summits, and the view from the top transforms our negative emotions into a more profound love for Him.
The journey helps us recognize flawed thoughts and untangle the strands of truth. The distance gives us reason to apply His Word over and again. Truth can steady and tame our raw emotions, and in time, we’ll notice that our “impulsive reactions” have turned into Godly responses.
Enjoy this beautiful song that explains God’s misunderstood mercy and love.
Have a blessed weekend.
