It’s All About You

Did you reread this title and think it was a mistake?

Perhaps, your disbelieving eyebrow was raised. I’m sure you’ve heard the cliché, “It’s not about you.” This phrase has infiltrated our homes, workplaces and even churches. We hear it often, especially when there’s conflict between two people.

But, imagine for a moment that life is about you. No matter how many people have lived, or ever will live, your life is about you. You are ultimately accountable for you.

I’m assuming the cliché was intended to jar self-centered individuals into selfless people. But, telling someone “it’s not about you” doesn’t produce character transformation. I struggle with selfishness and pride but my motivation to change comes from knowing that I’m loved unconditionally.

Take a look at these familiar scriptures.

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (New American Standard Bible, John 3:16).

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (NASB, Romans 5:8).

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins (NASB, 1 John 4:10).

God’s fervent love set into motion the greatest rescue mission in history because it’s all about you. As I pondered this thought with a grateful heart I began to journal. I wondered what God would say to me in His personal, unpublished journal. Imagine with me…

God’s Journal

Why, oh beloved of God, do you doubt my love? Haven’t you heard how much I adore you and ache for your love? Why do you easily adopt the ways of man and the world’s customs with its ambitions?

Let go of vain philosophies and catchy clichés. Let my two-edged sword cut away empty words that feed doubt. Believe My Word.

Did I not care for the widows, the poor, the lame, the orphans, the outcast and yes, even for those who persecuted me like Saul? If I cared for them why wouldn’t I care for you?

It’s always been about you. I, the everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of all you see and humanly know, declare in My Word…God loves.

There’s never been a moment I have forgotten you. It’s always been about you. I will continue to release all my love, all my compassion, all my power because you are my inheritance.

There’s no need to earn my love, work for my attention or feel that you are less than special. Beloved, there’s no need to grow weary or discouraged. Allow me to enter every secret chamber of your heart. I will heal your insecurities and restore what has been stolen or lost because it’s always been about you.

Wait and I will respond with any degree of faith you offer. Yes, even if it’s the size of a mustard seed. Wait and I will touch you with supernatural strength that will move spiritual mountains or help you climb them. Throughout our journey, I will teach you about my profound love because it’s always been about you.

As Christmas approaches, I hope you’ll experience God’s love in a greater measure. As He increases, we decrease and “self” takes a step back. God becomes the centerpiece of our lives. Suddenly, our focus shifts and we cry out to Him, “It’s all about You.”

Have a blessed weekend.
