It was an unrushed Saturday morning, and our three-year-old was playing in her room. Mr. Sunshine peeked through the curtains adding warmth to Audrey’s little tea table and stuffed toys. I could hear a mixture of static and snippets of music as she rolled the dial on her clock radio. Unrecognizable sounds kept her entertained, but then I heard, “Nana!”

I met her halfway in the hallway, “What’s up?”

“I found Jesus. Come see.” She quickly grabbed my hand and yanked me back to her room. I didn’t know Jesus was missing, but I had to play along.

“See, Jesus music,” she repeated with a satisfied smile.

I could hear the worship music coming out of her Walmart clock radio.

“You did find Jesus,” I agreed. Her enjoyment stirred my heart with delight.

Audrey found Jesus in more ways than one. Jesus music filled the room and our hearts.

Find Jesus Music

Sometimes, children have a succinct and profound way of expressing the joy of the Lord. As a writer, there are times I sit in front of a blank screen trying to communicate spiritual thoughts—write, revise, delete. But when I have Christian music in the background my focus isn’t on words, but worship. Thoughts form into words and words into paragraphs. Once again, the joy of the Lord helps me take my next step.

Audrey gave me a great reminder to simply, “find the Jesus music.”

Christians have Jesus in their hearts, but sometimes throughout the course of the day, we don’t hear Jesus music. It’s like having a Walmart clock radio and never turning it on. It takes just a moment to redirect our attention to the voice inside of us; we need to find Jesus music.

Different genres of music stir our emotions. Music can be calming and reflective; others are energizing and engaging. Perhaps, you love the oldies (known as classic hits) and enjoy reminiscing the past. Music tells a story; it’s a story that connects our hearts and emotions.

When we pause to hear Jesus music, our thoughts focus on Jesus with faith-filled emotions. We remember the one story that counts; God loves us. Living with the joy of the Lord is turning on, or turning up, the inner voice of God.

Share Jesus Music

Audrey, couldn’t wait to share the Jesus music. After all, she was searching for Him, and she found Him. We can find Jesus every day when we seek Him.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.”

Matthew 7:7-8 New American Standard Bible

We can share Jesus music with others. Some might offer hospitality or tangible support. Others may use their talents or gifts. Whatever way God leads you, share the Jesus music.

Global Jesus Music

Hillsong United, with worship leader Taya Smith (“Oceans” and “Touch the Sky”), has ministered to people throughout the world connecting them to God through music.

A woman from the new movie Hillsong – Let Hope Rise stated,

“I felt this hard shell around my heart just begin to crack open.”

It all begins when we hear Jesus music.

Share God’s goodness today, and let hope rise.
